In many equine competitions, horses sport black and brown leather tack. But that is not the case at a Friesian keuring. If you plan to show your horse at a keur, you should know the traditional presentation of the breed. Friesians generally show in white leather tack at this breed-specific event. They are presented in white bridles with a white lead rope and chain, usually without a noseband. It’s important to note that while it is traditional to show in white tack, you are NOT required to show in white tack. Selecting a flattering bridle for your horse is more important than using traditional white tack.
Friesian foals typically show in white halters and white cotton lead ropes. Typically, Friesians over two years of age are shown in a white bridle with a bit.
The types of bits used in a keuring will differ. There are traditional gold bits with horseshoe shapes on either side, but that’s not a requirement. Any snaffle bit that fits your Friesian will work.
Here are some great options for shopping for the keur!

I’ve been around horses my entire life, but my Friesian journey started just over 20 years ago. Our horses have always been a part of our family. They have traveled with us as we relocated from Vermont to New York to Iowa and finally, to Arizona. I can’t wait to share our story with you!
